Hi!

This community is dead, so it appears, which is too bad because it seems like the past had some good commentary.

Anyway, OGS is released tomorrow. Did anyone apply? Want to talk about it?

Edit: Wow, OGS was released on time (at least for me!). And luckily it was good news. Fingers crossed for all of you!

I think it's unlikely that we'll get results tomorrow. I think my status updated last year on the 18th, and they generally update on the 15th at the earliest (as they say that it is AFTER the 14th).

Quite frankly, my money woes will make the next week of waiting so bad that I do not want to talk about it. But I will definitely wish you best of luck! Make sure you post here when you do find out so I can begin compulsively reloading the status page.

What are you studying? Are you M.A. or PhD?

Results are always late - my guess is that they will out on Monday. And let's not even get started on SSHRC, LOL....

OGS is always, always, always later than they say it will be. Count on it being around the 20th, you'll just make yourself crazy otherwise!

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the information. And definitely good to know that I don't need to keep refreshing OGS like a maniac. I applied directly to the ministry (for both OGS & SSHRC) because I was out of school last year so I have no idea if that helps or hurts my chances in both regards.

Definitely hoping for positive results! I'm doing my MA next year and I definitely gambled on my funding package. I was deciding between two offers and the one I turned down was more attractive assuming that I *didn't* get OGS/SSHRC. Assuming that I did get it (wishful thinking), the school I accepted doesn't claw much back at all so it ends up being a considerably better offer by about 10 grand. Soooo..... fingers crossed.

Best of luck to all of you who applied too!

I applied! It's veeeerrry good to know that they're late, I had no idea, so thanks to those who mentioned that.

Best of luck to all. I'm going to have my fingers crossed so hard until I hear...

Through some incredible miracle OGS results have been released already (at least some of them).
Everyone commence hitting reload on your browsers!

Hey Everyone! Is anyone still waiting to hear from OGS? Quite a few of my fellow cohort members have heard they were successful in their applications, but my screen still stubbornly refuses to update....likely rejection?

Same here, it may mean we're in the second draft that gets money only when first draft students refuse it? So says my advisor, anyway.

This would be incorrect. OGS uses a waitlist (they call it a "reversion list") and some people on the reversion list have had their status updated.

There seems to be some debate about what exactly a non-updated status means. It seems like no one who has had an updated status has thus far been rejected, or at least no one I know and no one who posts on the internet. It appears to me that what's happening is that they're inputting all the successful and reversion list folks first and still have not completed that process. I wouldn't take a lack of update to mean either a rejection or an acceptance (or reversion list spot) at this point. I think it just means that they're not updating all at once.

For people who haven't heard at all yet I think the thing to do would be to not jump to conclusions or try to guess. The process is stressful enough without creating false hopes or false fears in your own head.

I still have not had my status change yet. My friend who applied found he is on the reversion list, which makes me wonder as our applications were quite similar except my GPA was slightly higher. We are both at the same level and with the same supervisor.

It was the first time applying for both of us, so we were thinking is there any chance they go alphabetically with the updates? My last name begins with W, and my buddy's with a J? Again I have no idea, just my thoughts.

Tell me about it! Although the clawback at the school I'm going to makes me wonder why I spent so much time on this stupid application for such a little increase in funding!

Information on the results of the competition will be available after April 16, 2010.

GAH.

For people still waiting, this was posted on the gradcafe forum:
***
Got this today from my grad-secretary:

"I'm sending this message to students who have inquired about OGS. I've talked to Lois Bamsey of GPS. She explained that there are probably about 13,000 OGS applications, and that they are being entered into the system according to the review panels. As soon as a result has been entered, the student can see it. She didn't know how long it would take for all of the results to be entered, but if your status remains "unchanged" (I think that's the word!), there is still hope. I guess you will have to just keeping checking. Apparently GPS will not get the list of successful applicants until mid May. Hope this helps!"
***
So it sounds like there is some method to this madness: they're inputting them panel by panel. (This means that it's virtually impossible to know when you'll actually get an update)

For those who have received OGS, what were your avg GPA? Mine is 3.82 and I still havn't heard from them.

Maybe they're uploading the results based on the purposed disciplines?

I'm a foreign graduate student,
only 60 slots on all of Canada in any discipline.

Question: do the results update overnight, or do they post during the day?

My colleagues that were notified right on the 14th say they could view their results just after midnight, but I don't know if that applies to those of us in limbo...
